I use the “Do Not Disturb” feature occasionally during my workday. Recently, I activated “Do Not Disturb” For 1 hour in my Big Sur installation. Part way through this process I decided I did not need Do Not Disturb any longer, but I could not figure out how to turn it off. Deactivating Do Not Disturb in Big Sur is not the same as previous versions of macOS. It is simple to do, here is how that works.

In Big Sur the Do Not Disturb feature is located in the new “Control Center”. When you click on it, you get the Do Not Disturb choices. You can turn Do Not Disturb off by pressing on either the button or the button on your Ooma Telo Base Station or Phone Genie and holding it for two seconds. You can also turn Do Not Disturb off by pressing again the DND button on an Ooma HD2 Handset or Ooma HD3 Handset or by dialing.79 on a regular handset. The Do Not Disturb setting is pretty handy, especially when you’re at work or sleeping. This feature allows you to receive all your usual notifications, minus the disruptive sounds and vibrations that tend to come with them. But what if someone on your favorites list (like your brother, mom, best friend, etc.) has an emergency and can’t get ahold of you? Well, there’s an easy way to let. In Big Sur the Do Not Disturb feature is located in the new “Control Center”.

When you click on it, you get the Do Not Disturb choices.

If you select Do Not Disturb “For 1 Hour” the module looks like this.

The item is highlighted and a small crescent moon icon appears in your menubar. If you decide to turn off Do Not Disturb before the hour is up, just click on the crescent moon symbol in the menubar to bring up the Do Not Disturb window.

Then click on “For 1 Hour” and Do Not Disturb is deactivated on your Mac.

Like I said, when I first used Do Not Disturb on my Mac I could not figure out how to turn it off manually until I did a little research online.

Conclusion

I really like how Control Center makes my most used macOS features available. Of course, Do Not Disturb is one of those features.
